Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 5 383 passenger cars in September 2023: 3 908 new cars (72.6% of the total) and 1 475 used imports. That is up 9.0% on the previous month and up 4.3% on September 2022. Year to date the market stands at 53 032 registrations, up 13.0% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 35.4% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 620 registrations and a 11.5% share, ahead of BMW (585) and MERCEDES-BENZ (531). Together the top three brands took 32.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, RENAULT grew fastest year on year (+42.4%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (−30.9%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 174 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (168) and the RENAULT CLIO (158). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used import: 96 used against 78 new.

Battery-electric cars took 19.1% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 25.8%. Plug-in hybrids took 8.4%, other hybrids 18.2%, diesel 20.1% and petrol 34.1%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 184 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MERCEDES-BENZ (95). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 168 registrations, ahead of the JEEP AVENGER (92). New cars averaged 99.1 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 9.9 years old when they were registered.
