Denmark registered 16 219 new passenger cars in August 2026. That is up 10.5% on July 2026 and up 24.0% on August 2025. Year to date the market stands at 132 491 registrations, up 13.3% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 66.6% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets. Leasing accounted for 39.8% of the month's registrations, private leasing alone for 13.5%.

TOYOTA led the brand ranking with 1 619 registrations and a 10.0% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 593) and SKODA (1 364). Together the top three brands took 28.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, CITROEN grew fastest year on year (+222.7%) while CUPRA fell furthest (โˆ’29.8%). The best-selling model was the SKODA ELROQ with 768 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (693) and the TOYOTA BZ4X (674).

Battery-electric cars took 85.6% of new registrations, compared with 68.7% in August 2025. Plug-in hybrids took 0.1%, diesel 4.5% and petrol 9.8%.

August 2026 was the 14th-highest of the 36 months on this page, which average 15 419 registrations a month; the peak was June 2026 with 21 583 and the low January 2024 with 8 861.
