Austria registered 102 622 passenger cars in July 2026: 25 823 new cars (25.2% of the total) and 76 799 used cars. That is down 1.9% on June 2026 and up 5.4% on July 2025. Year to date the market stands at 673 611 registrations, up 0.7% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 006 registrations and a 16.6% share, ahead of BMW (9 192) and AUDI (8 572). Together the top three brands took 33.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SEAT grew fastest year on year (+13.4%) while VOLKSWAGEN fell furthest (−1.6%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 894 new registrations, followed by the BMW X3 (623) and the SEAT ARONA (590).
Battery-electric cars took 10.7% of all registrations, compared with 8.2% in July 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 27.4%. Plug-in hybrids took 6.4%, other hybrids 14.6%, diesel 35.7% and petrol 32.5%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 971 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BYD (644). The best-selling battery-electric model was the BMW X3 with 422 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ENYAQ (377).
July 2026 was the 5th-highest of the 36 months on this page, which average 90 669 registrations a month; the peak was March 2026 with 109 252 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
