Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 4 715 passenger cars in December 2023: 3 318 new cars (70.4% of the total) and 1 397 used imports. That is down 6.6% on November 2023 and up 2.9% on December 2022. Year to date the market stands at 68 551 registrations, up 11.5% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 36.9% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

BMW led the brand ranking with 713 registrations and a 15.1% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (539) and AUDI (413). Together the top three brands took 35.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TESLA grew fastest year on year (+68.4%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (−31.6%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 165 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL 3 (147) and the BMW 3 SERIES (129). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used import: 87 used against 78 new.

Battery-electric cars took 17.4% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 24.3%. Plug-in hybrids took 9.1%, other hybrids 16.3%, diesel 24.3% and petrol 32.6%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 197 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MG (128). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 147 registrations, ahead of the MG MG4 (102). New cars averaged 103.3 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 8.5 years old when they were registered.

December 2023 was the weakest of the 4 months on this page, which average 5 226 registrations a month; the strongest was October 2023 with 5 758.
