Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 6 153 passenger cars in February 2024: 4 328 new cars (70.3% of the total) and 1 825 used imports. That is up 21.3% on January 2024 and up 2.4% on February 2023. Year to date the market stands at 11 226 registrations, unchanged on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 49.4% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 880 registrations and a 14.3% share, ahead of BMW (754) and MERCEDES-BENZ (550). Together the top three brands took 35.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, RENAULT grew fastest year on year (+25.3%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (−29.0%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 200 registrations, followed by the BMW 1 SERIES (137) and the BMW 3 SERIES (117). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used import: 113 used against 87 new.

Battery-electric cars took 15.7% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 21.8%. Plug-in hybrids took 7.6%, other hybrids 19.6%, diesel 21.3% and petrol 35.6%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 130 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MG (114). The best-selling battery-electric model was the MG MG4 with 107 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (78). New cars averaged 108.5 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 6.8 years old when they were registered.

February 2024 was the strongest of the 6 months on this page, which average 5 355 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 4 715.
