Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 6 279 passenger cars in March 2024: 4 641 new cars (73.9% of the total) and 1 638 used imports. That is up 2.0% on February 2024 and down 12.6% on March 2023. Year to date the market stands at 17 505 registrations, down 4.9% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 50.7% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 839 registrations and a 13.4% share, ahead of BMW (748) and MERCEDES-BENZ (512). Together the top three brands took 33.4% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+42.4%) while RENAULT fell furthest (−25.8%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 187 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (156) and the BMW 3 SERIES (143).

Battery-electric cars took 20.1% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 26.8%. Plug-in hybrids took 6.5%, other hybrids 17.5%, diesel 20.1% and petrol 35.8%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 275 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (165). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 187 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (89). New cars averaged 104.1 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 7.2 years old when they were registered.

March 2024 was the strongest of the 7 months on this page, which average 5 487 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 4 715.
