Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 4 472 passenger cars in December 2024: 3 129 new cars (70.0% of the total) and 1 343 used imports. That is down 9.0% on November 2024 and down 5.2% on December 2023. Year to date the market stands at 65 101 registrations, down 5.0% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 38.9% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 615 registrations and a 13.8% share, ahead of BMW (583) and AUDI (404). Together the top three brands took 35.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, KIA grew fastest year on year (+76.9%) while VOLVO fell furthest (−20.2%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 172 registrations, followed by the BMW 1 SERIES (128) and the PEUGEOT 2008 (105).

Battery-electric cars took 20.3% of all registrations, compared with 17.4% in December 2023. Among new cars alone the electric share was 28.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 7.3%, other hybrids 20.9%, diesel 18.2% and petrol 33.1%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 126 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (88). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL 3 with 64 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (61). New cars averaged 95.8 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 7.5 years old when they were registered.

December 2024 was the 15th-highest of the 16 months on this page, which average 5 375 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 6 279 and the low August 2024 with 4 177.
