Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 5 589 passenger cars in May 2025: 4 099 new cars (73.3% of the total) and 1 490 used imports. That is down 7.5% on April 2025 and up 5.1% on May 2024. Year to date the market stands at 29 678 registrations, up 2.9% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 50.0% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 709 registrations and a 12.7% share, ahead of BMW (667) and MERCEDES-BENZ (584). Together the top three brands took 35.1% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, CITROEN grew fastest year on year (+153.3%) while PORSCHE fell furthest (−11.5%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 201 registrations, followed by the BMW X1 (130) and the MERCEDES-BENZ GLC (122).

Battery-electric cars took 16.5% of all registrations, compared with 19.0% in May 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 21.7%. Plug-in hybrids took 7.9%, other hybrids 26.3%, diesel 16.3% and petrol 33.0%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 134 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MERCEDES-BENZ (106). The best-selling battery-electric model was the MERCEDES-BENZ EQA with 54 registrations, ahead of the BMW I4 (53). New cars averaged 104.8 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 8.7 years old when they were registered.

May 2025 was the 11th-highest of the 21 months on this page, which average 5 509 registrations a month; the peak was March 2025 with 6 645 and the low August 2024 with 4 177.
