Passenger-car registrations in Luxembourg

Luxembourg registered 4 336 passenger cars in August 2025: 2 965 new cars (68.4% of the total) and 1 371 used imports. That is down 32.1% on July 2025 and up 3.8% on August 2024. Year to date the market stands at 46 082 registrations, up 2.7% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 49.1% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

BMW led the brand ranking with 571 registrations and a 13.2% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (542) and MERCEDES-BENZ (497). Together the top three brands took 37.1% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, RENAULT grew fastest year on year (+63.6%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (−13.5%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 106 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN POLO (105) and the BMW 1 SERIES (96). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used import: 72 used against 34 new.

Battery-electric cars took 17.4% of all registrations, compared with 21.3% in August 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 24.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 6.3%, other hybrids 26.1%, diesel 15.1% and petrol 35.0%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 108 battery-electric registrations, ahead of MERCEDES-BENZ (85). The best-selling battery-electric model was the MERCEDES-BENZ EQB with 39 registrations, ahead of the KIA EV3 (36). New cars averaged 105.8 g/km of CO₂ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 8.2 years old when they were registered.

August 2025 was the 23rd-highest of the 24 months on this page, which average 5 504 registrations a month; the peak was March 2025 with 6 645 and the low August 2024 with 4 177.
