Austria registered 85 131 passenger cars in October 2023: 18 867 new cars (22.2% of the total) and 66 264 used cars. That is up 1.3% on September 2023 and up 14.5% on October 2022. Year to date the market stands at 842 930 registrations, up 3.2% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 16 136 registrations and a 19.0% share, ahead of AUDI (7 701) and BMW (7 457). Together the top three brands took 36.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, AUDI grew fastest year on year (+19.9%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA ENYAQ with 516 new registrations, followed by the DACIA SANDERO (481) and the SKODA OCTAVIA (433).

Battery-electric cars took 7.6% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 23.2%. Plug-in hybrids took 3.1%, other hybrids 8.8%, diesel 44.5% and petrol 35.9%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 728 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (646). The best-selling battery-electric model was the SKODA ENYAQ with 516 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 (340).

October 2023 was the strongest of the 3 months on this page, which average 83 797 registrations a month; the weakest was August 2023 with 82 194.
