Austria registered 98 014 passenger cars in March 2024: 25 701 new cars (26.2% of the total) and 72 313 used cars. That is up 14.3% on February 2024 and down 0.6% on March 2023. Year to date the market stands at 264 546 registrations, up 6.9% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 448 registrations and a 17.8% share, ahead of AUDI (8 584) and BMW (8 533). Together the top three brands took 35.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SEAT grew fastest year on year (+13.9%) while FORD fell furthest (−15.0%). The best-selling new-car model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 978 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (885) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (821).
Battery-electric cars took 7.1% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 18.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 3.0%, other hybrids 11.2%, diesel 43.0% and petrol 35.8%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 239 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (691). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 978 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL 3 (239).
March 2024 was the strongest of the 8 months on this page, which average 83 767 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 73 057.
