Austria registered 94 907 passenger cars in April 2024: 21 337 new cars (22.5% of the total) and 73 570 used cars. That is down 3.2% on March 2024 and up 19.4% on April 2023. Year to date the market stands at 359 453 registrations, up 9.9% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 678 registrations and a 18.6% share, ahead of BMW (8 723) and AUDI (8 209). Together the top three brands took 36.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+36.4%) while FORD fell furthest (−3.1%). The best-selling new-car model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 861 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (710) and the DACIA SANDERO (522).
Battery-electric cars took 5.9% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 15.1%. Plug-in hybrids took 3.0%, other hybrids 9.7%, diesel 43.5% and petrol 37.7%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 633 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (387). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 313 registrations, ahead of the BMW X1 (191).
April 2024 was the 2nd-highest of the 9 months on this page, which average 85 005 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 98 014 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
