Austria registered 97 264 passenger cars in June 2024: 30 693 new cars (31.6% of the total) and 66 571 used cars. That is up 8.8% on May 2024 and up 4.3% on June 2023. Year to date the market stands at 546 086 registrations, up 7.7% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 18 120 registrations and a 18.6% share, ahead of AUDI (7 957) and BMW (7 903). Together the top three brands took 34.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+18.9%) while RENAULT fell furthest (−9.5%). The best-selling new-car model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 1 701 new registrations, followed by the MITSUBISHI SPACE STAR (860) and the VOLKSWAGEN BUS (762).
Battery-electric cars took 7.2% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 15.3%. Plug-in hybrids took 3.4%, other hybrids 11.9%, diesel 40.9% and petrol 36.6%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 050 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BYD (616). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 614 registrations, ahead of the BYD ATTO (422).
June 2024 was the 2nd-highest of the 11 months on this page, which average 86 516 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 98 014 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
