Passenger-car registrations in Austria

Austria registered 95 685 passenger cars in July 2024: 18 901 new cars (19.8% of the total) and 76 784 used cars. That is down 1.6% on June 2024 and up 13.5% on July 2023. Year to date the market stands at 641 771 registrations, up 8.5% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 744 registrations and a 18.5% share, ahead of AUDI (8 764) and BMW (8 748). Together the top three brands took 36.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+24.8%). The best-selling new-car model was the BMW X1 with 501 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (472) and the VOLKSWAGEN POLO (453).
Battery-electric cars took 5.9% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 15.5%. Plug-in hybrids took 3.2%, other hybrids 10.5%, diesel 43.8% and petrol 36.6%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 585 battery-electric registrations, ahead of AUDI (291). The best-selling battery-electric model was the BMW X1 with 227 registrations, ahead of the BYD SEAL (206).
July 2024 was the 3rd-highest of the 12 months on this page, which average 87 280 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 98 014 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
