Austria registered 83 840 passenger cars in February 2025: 19 619 new cars (23.4% of the total) and 64 221 used cars. That is down 3.9% on January 2025 and down 2.3% on February 2024. Year to date the market stands at 171 072 registrations, up 2.7% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 15 062 registrations and a 18.0% share, ahead of BMW (7 534) and AUDI (7 335). Together the top three brands took 35.7% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, OPEL grew fastest year on year (+9.5%) while SEAT fell furthest (−8.9%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 636 new registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (589) and the SEAT IBIZA (514).
Battery-electric cars took 8.4% of all registrations, compared with 6.4% in February 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 21.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 4.1%, other hybrids 12.6%, diesel 40.8% and petrol 34.1%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 565 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (524). The best-selling battery-electric model was the RENAULT R5 with 237 registrations, ahead of the BYD SEAL (219).
February 2025 was the 12th-highest of the 19 months on this page, which average 86 899 registrations a month; the peak was March 2024 with 98 014 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
