Passenger-car registrations in Austria

Austria registered 99 238 passenger cars in March 2025: 25 950 new cars (26.1% of the total) and 73 288 used cars. That is up 18.4% on February 2025 and up 1.2% on March 2024. Year to date the market stands at 270 310 registrations, up 2.2% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 153 registrations and a 17.3% share, ahead of BMW (8 976) and AUDI (8 433). Together the top three brands took 34.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, PEUGEOT grew fastest year on year (+22.4%) while SEAT fell furthest (−15.5%). The best-selling new-car model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 766 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (668) and the DACIA DUSTER (588).
Battery-electric cars took 9.1% of all registrations, compared with 7.1% in March 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 23.6%. Plug-in hybrids took 4.4%, other hybrids 13.2%, diesel 38.9% and petrol 34.4%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 815 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (789). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 500 registrations, ahead of the BYD SEALION (323).
March 2025 was the strongest of the 20 months on this page, which average 87 516 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 73 057.
