Passenger-car registrations in Austria

Austria registered 100 654 passenger cars in April 2025: 24 855 new cars (24.7% of the total) and 75 799 used cars. That is up 1.4% on March 2025 and up 6.1% on April 2024. Year to date the market stands at 370 964 registrations, up 3.2% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 848 registrations and a 17.7% share, ahead of BMW (9 580) and AUDI (8 917). Together the top three brands took 36.1% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, PEUGEOT grew fastest year on year (+17.2%) while SEAT fell furthest (−4.1%). The best-selling new-car model was the BMW X1 with 704 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (608) and the TOYOTA YARIS (563).
Battery-electric cars took 8.3% of all registrations, compared with 5.9% in April 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 22.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 4.7%, other hybrids 13.3%, diesel 38.4% and petrol 35.2%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 877 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (737). The best-selling battery-electric model was the BMW X1 with 347 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ELROQ (344).
April 2025 was the strongest of the 21 months on this page, which average 88 142 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 73 057.
