Austria registered 103 887 passenger cars in June 2025: 27 868 new cars (26.8% of the total) and 76 019 used cars. That is up 7.7% on May 2025 and up 6.8% on June 2024. Year to date the market stands at 571 301 registrations, up 4.6% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 18 093 registrations and a 17.4% share, ahead of BMW (8 984) and AUDI (8 640). Together the top three brands took 34.4% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, PEUGEOT grew fastest year on year (+30.0%) while VOLKSWAGEN fell furthest (−0.1%). The best-selling new-car model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 953 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (712) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (616).
Battery-electric cars took 8.8% of all registrations, compared with 7.2% in June 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 22.4%. Plug-in hybrids took 4.7%, other hybrids 13.3%, diesel 38.2% and petrol 34.9%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 256 battery-electric registrations, ahead of SKODA (676). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 953 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ELROQ (383).
June 2025 was the strongest of the 23 months on this page, which average 89 187 registrations a month; the weakest was December 2023 with 73 057.
