Austria registered 95 508 passenger cars in September 2025: 25 745 new cars (27.0% of the total) and 69 763 used cars. That is up 14.1% on August 2025 and up 8.9% on September 2024. Year to date the market stands at 847 822 registrations, up 4.4% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 111 registrations and a 17.9% share, ahead of AUDI (8 019) and BMW (7 650). Together the top three brands took 34.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+30.4%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 743 new registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (736) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (605).
Battery-electric cars took 9.0% of all registrations, compared with 7.9% in September 2024. Among new cars alone the electric share was 20.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 5.0%, other hybrids 14.0%, diesel 36.7% and petrol 35.1%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 026 battery-electric registrations, ahead of SKODA (583). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 736 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ELROQ (303).
September 2025 was the 10th-highest of the 26 months on this page, which average 89 532 registrations a month; the peak was June 2025 with 103 887 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
