Austria registered 82 596 passenger cars in February 2026: 21 288 new cars (25.8% of the total) and 61 308 used cars. That is up 0.3% on January 2026 and down 1.5% on February 2025. Year to date the market stands at 164 964 registrations, down 3.6% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 14 469 registrations and a 17.5% share, ahead of AUDI (7 360) and BMW (6 904). Together the top three brands took 34.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, PEUGEOT grew fastest year on year (+11.1%) while RENAULT fell furthest (−12.4%). The best-selling new-car model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 507 new registrations, followed by the SKODA OCTAVIA (461) and the TOYOTA YARIS (452).
Battery-electric cars took 9.0% of all registrations, compared with 8.4% in February 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 20.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 5.5%, other hybrids 15.3%, diesel 37.3% and petrol 32.8%. The leading electric brand was SKODA with 577 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (458). The best-selling battery-electric model was the SKODA ELROQ with 318 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ENYAQ (259).
February 2026 was the 23rd-highest of the 31 months on this page, which average 88 885 registrations a month; the peak was June 2025 with 103 887 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
