Austria registered 102 704 passenger cars in April 2026: 27 509 new cars (26.8% of the total) and 75 195 used cars. That is down 6.0% on March 2026 and up 2.0% on April 2025. Year to date the market stands at 376 920 registrations, up 1.6% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 700 registrations and a 17.2% share, ahead of AUDI (8 967) and BMW (8 944). Together the top three brands took 34.7% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SEAT grew fastest year on year (+7.6%) while BMW fell furthest (−6.6%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 652 new registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (607) and the BMW X1 (518).
Battery-electric cars took 12.6% of all registrations, compared with 8.3% in April 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 25.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 6.0%, other hybrids 15.1%, diesel 33.1% and petrol 33.2%. The leading electric brand was BYD with 911 battery-electric registrations, ahead of SKODA (906). The best-selling battery-electric model was the SKODA ELROQ with 476 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ENYAQ (430).
April 2026 was the 3rd-highest of the 33 months on this page, which average 89 921 registrations a month; the peak was March 2026 with 109 252 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
