Austria registered 104 633 passenger cars in June 2026: 34 256 new cars (32.7% of the total) and 70 377 used cars. That is up 17.0% on May 2026 and up 0.7% on June 2025. Year to date the market stands at 570 989 registrations, down 0.1% on the same period of last year.
VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 17 088 registrations and a 16.3% share, ahead of BMW (8 767) and SKODA (8 345). Together the top three brands took 32.7% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+31.5%) while FORD fell furthest (−9.8%). The best-selling new-car model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 828 new registrations, followed by the HYUNDAI TUCSON (780) and the TESLA MODEL Y (747).
Battery-electric cars took 12.5% of all registrations, compared with 8.8% in June 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 26.3%. Plug-in hybrids took 6.5%, other hybrids 16.5%, diesel 32.7% and petrol 31.7%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 300 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (900). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 747 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL 3 (539).
June 2026 was the 2nd-highest of the 35 months on this page, which average 90 327 registrations a month; the peak was March 2026 with 109 252 and the low December 2023 with 73 057.
