Lithuania registered 10 100 passenger cars in September 2023: 1 926 new cars (19.1% of the total) and 8 165 used imports. That is down 3.7% on August 2023 and down 1.3% on September 2022. Private buyers accounted for 82.1% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 1 303 registrations and a 12.9% share, ahead of BMW (1 238) and TOYOTA (1 030). Together the top three brands took 35.4% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLVO grew fastest year on year (+18.3%) while OPEL fell furthest (โˆ’12.0%). The best-selling model was the BMW 3 SERIES with 355 registrations, followed by the BMW 5 SERIES (322) and the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (296). The 3 SERIES arrived mainly as a used import: 347 used against 8 new.

Battery-electric cars took 3.8% of all registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 2.5%, other hybrids 13.5%, diesel 55.3% and petrol 21.8%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 76 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (62). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 40 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 (25). New cars averaged 130.9 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 10.7 years old when they were registered.

September 2023 was the weakest of the 3 months on this page, which average 10 336 registrations a month; the strongest was August 2023 with 10 483.
