DIV publishes a full calendar year at a time: the latest month is December 2025, from the file published on 2026-03-25. The next year's file usually arrives in the following spring.

Belgium registered 97 118 passenger cars in January 2023: 40 011 new cars (41.2% of the total) and 57 107 used cars. That is up 28.2% on the previous month and up 7.9% on January 2022. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 97 118, up 7.9% on January last year. Private buyers accounted for 34.4% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 10 078 registrations and a 10.4% share, ahead of BMW (9 680) and MERCEDES-BENZ (8 022). Together the top three brands took 28.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, MERCEDES-BENZ grew fastest year on year (+21.9%) while RENAULT fell furthest (โˆ’12.8%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 2 808 registrations, followed by the OPEL CORSA (2 298) and the BMW 3 SERIES (2 083). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used car: 2 510 used against 298 new.

Battery-electric cars took 6.9% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 14.3%. Hybrids took 20.3%, diesel 25.0% and petrol 47.3%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 839 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (818). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 452 registrations, ahead of the PORSCHE TAYCAN (402).

Counts are DIV's yearly open-data file, one row per combination of month, new/used, region, make, commercial name, holder type, category, Euro norm, COโ‚‚ band and fuel with its number of registrations, summed here. 'Used' is every registration of a car registered before, in Belgium or abroad. Models are the commercial names as typed at registration, normalised; from January 2024 the file leaves the name blank on 3โ€“4 % of registrations (older used cars), against under 0.5 % before, so used-car model rows and their year-on-year changes drop a little at that boundary. Plug-in hybrids are separable from January 2024 (the new file layout); earlier months count them among the hybrids and show no PHEV figure. Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
