DIV publishes a full calendar year at a time: the latest month is December 2025, from the file published on 2026-03-25. The next year's file usually arrives in the following spring.

Belgium registered 93 634 passenger cars in August 2023: 36 947 new cars (39.5% of the total) and 56 687 used cars. That is up 2.1% on July 2023 and up 16.6% on August 2022. Year to date the market stands at 801 624 registrations, up 17.3% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 30.2% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 11 101 registrations and a 11.9% share, ahead of BMW (9 350) and MERCEDES-BENZ (6 842). Together the top three brands took 29.2% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, AUDI grew fastest year on year (+38.9%) while TOYOTA fell furthest (โˆ’0.4%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 3 255 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN POLO (1 881) and the OPEL CORSA (1 867). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used car: 2 519 used against 736 new.

Battery-electric cars took 11.1% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 25.1%. Hybrids took 21.3%, diesel 22.0% and petrol 45.1%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 742 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 693). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 226 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 (992).

August 2023 was the 5th-highest of the 8 months on this page, which average 100 203 registrations a month; the peak was June 2023 with 119 407 and the low July 2023 with 91 742.

Counts are DIV's yearly open-data file, one row per combination of month, new/used, region, make, commercial name, holder type, category, Euro norm, COโ‚‚ band and fuel with its number of registrations, summed here. 'Used' is every registration of a car registered before, in Belgium or abroad. Models are the commercial names as typed at registration, normalised; from January 2024 the file leaves the name blank on 3โ€“4 % of registrations (older used cars), against under 0.5 % before, so used-car model rows and their year-on-year changes drop a little at that boundary. Plug-in hybrids are separable from January 2024 (the new file layout); earlier months count them among the hybrids and show no PHEV figure. Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
