Belgium registered 93 646 passenger cars in November 2023: 37 732 new cars (40.3% of the total) and 55 914 used cars. That is down 5.5% on October 2023 and up 15.3% on November 2022. Year to date the market stands at 1 091 065 registrations, up 16.6% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 27.8% of the new cars; the rest were registered to companies, leasing firms and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 10 893 registrations and a 11.6% share, ahead of BMW (9 558) and MERCEDES-BENZ (7 247). Together the top three brands took 29.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, AUDI grew fastest year on year (+35.4%) while CITROEN fell furthest (โˆ’11.3%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 3 080 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN POLO (2 205) and the AUDI A3 (1 930). The GOLF arrived mainly as a used car: 2 527 used against 553 new.

Battery-electric cars took 11.4% of all registrations. Among new cars alone the electric share was 25.2%. Hybrids took 22.3%, diesel 21.6% and petrol 44.0%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 693 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (1 519). The best-selling battery-electric model was the AUDI Q4 with 1 000 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (845).

November 2023 was the 7th-highest of the 11 months on this page, which average 99 188 registrations a month; the peak was June 2023 with 119 407 and the low July 2023 with 91 742.

'Used' is every registration of a car registered before, in Belgium or abroad. Models are the commercial names as typed at registration, normalised; from January 2024 the file leaves the name blank on 3โ€“4 % of registrations (older used cars), against under 0.5 % before, so used-car model rows and their year-on-year changes drop a little at that boundary. Plug-in hybrids are separable from January 2024 (the new file layout); earlier months count them among the hybrids and show no PHEV figure. Percentages are shown only when the comparison month has at least 30 registrations.
