Sweden registered 28 135 new passenger cars in September 2023. Year to date the market stands at 28 135 registrations. Private buyers accounted for 34.3% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 3 340 registrations and a 11.9% share, ahead of VOLVO (3 258) and TESLA (3 164). Together the top three brands took 34.7% of the market. The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 3 050 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (1 391) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (1 229).

Battery-electric cars took 44.4% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 19.0%, other hybrids 6.8%, diesel 7.7% and petrol 20.0%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 3 164 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 739). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 3 050 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (1 229).
