Sweden registered 25 016 new passenger cars in October 2023. That is down 11.1% on September 2023. Year to date the market stands at 53 151 registrations. Private buyers accounted for 34.1% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 708 registrations and a 14.8% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 732) and KIA (2 629). Together the top three brands took 36.3% of the market. The best-selling model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 617 registrations, followed by the KIA NIRO (998) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (994).

Battery-electric cars took 37.6% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 23.0%, other hybrids 8.0%, diesel 7.5% and petrol 21.5%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 1 352 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 226). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 994 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (916).
