Sweden registered 29 436 new passenger cars in December 2023. That is up 15.9% on November 2023. Year to date the market stands at 107 993 registrations. Private buyers accounted for 30.5% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 6 095 registrations and a 20.7% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 160) and KIA (2 230). Together the top three brands took 39.0% of the market. The best-selling model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 967 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 907) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (1 376).

Battery-electric cars took 39.1% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 24.0%, other hybrids 7.6%, diesel 6.9% and petrol 20.8%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 2 043 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (1 846). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 with 1 376 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (1 147).

December 2023 was the strongest of the 4 months on this page, which average 26 998 registrations a month; the weakest was October 2023 with 25 016.
