Sweden registered 17 164 new passenger cars in January 2024. That is down 41.7% on December 2023. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 17 164. Private buyers accounted for 27.4% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 079 registrations and a 17.9% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 999) and TOYOTA (1 709). Together the top three brands took 39.6% of the market. The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 893 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (700) and the TESLA MODEL Y (577).

Battery-electric cars took 28.8% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 23.7%, other hybrids 10.6%, diesel 10.0% and petrol 23.0%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 1 213 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (730). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 577 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (567).

January 2024 was the weakest of the 5 months on this page, which average 25 031 registrations a month; the strongest was December 2023 with 29 436.
