Sweden registered 21 977 new passenger cars in April 2024. That is down 8.0% on March 2024. Year to date the market stands at 81 798 registrations. Private buyers accounted for 34.8% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 963 registrations and a 18.0% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 070) and TOYOTA (1 858). Together the top three brands took 35.9% of the market. The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 1 299 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (838) and the VOLVO EX30 (756).

Battery-electric cars took 30.9% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 26.0%, other hybrids 9.7%, diesel 6.9% and petrol 23.6%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 1 513 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (1 051). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 838 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX30 (756).

April 2024 was the 6th-highest of the 8 months on this page, which average 23 724 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low January 2024 with 17 164.
