Sweden registered 19 036 new passenger cars in August 2024. That is up 16.5% on July 2024. Year to date the market stands at 167 666 registrations. Private buyers accounted for 37.0% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 2 516 registrations and a 13.2% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 192) and TOYOTA (1 663). Together the top three brands took 33.5% of the market. The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 101 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (532) and the VOLVO XC60 (510).

Battery-electric cars took 35.7% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 20.3%, other hybrids 12.2%, diesel 8.3% and petrol 22.3%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 348 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 157). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 101 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (500).

August 2024 was the 9th-highest of the 12 months on this page, which average 22 972 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
