Sweden registered 25 725 new passenger cars in September 2024. That is up 35.1% on August 2024 and down 8.6% on September 2023. Year to date the market stands at 193 391 registrations, up 587.4% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 36.9% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

TESLA led the brand ranking with 4 792 registrations and a 18.6% share, ahead of VOLVO (3 579) and VOLKSWAGEN (2 594). Together the top three brands took 42.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TESLA grew fastest year on year (+51.5%) while KIA fell furthest (โˆ’25.5%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 4 125 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 149) and the VOLVO EX/XC40 (781).

Battery-electric cars took 44.8% of new registrations, compared with 44.4% in September 2023. Plug-in hybrids took 20.2%, other hybrids 8.7%, diesel 4.8% and petrol 20.3%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 4 792 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 306). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 4 125 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL 3 (643).

September 2024 was the 3rd-highest of the 13 months on this page, which average 23 183 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
