Sweden registered 26 321 new passenger cars in December 2024. That is up 5.9% on November 2024 and down 10.6% on December 2023. Year to date the market stands at 269 582 registrations, up 149.6% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 38.1% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 4 287 registrations and a 16.3% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 128) and TESLA (2 795). Together the top three brands took 38.8% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, POLESTAR grew fastest year on year (+152.0%) while AUDI fell furthest (โˆ’32.0%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 2 374 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 438) and the VOLVO EX30 (797).

Battery-electric cars took 40.6% of new registrations, compared with 39.1% in December 2023. Plug-in hybrids took 22.0%, other hybrids 9.7%, diesel 5.8% and petrol 21.0%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 2 795 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 641). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 2 374 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX30 (797).

December 2024 was the 3rd-highest of the 16 months on this page, which average 23 598 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
