Sweden registered 19 632 new passenger cars in January 2025. That is down 25.4% on December 2024 and up 14.4% on January 2024. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 19 632, up 14.4% on January last year. Private buyers accounted for 31.9% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 092 registrations and a 15.8% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 846) and SUBARU (2 580). Together the top three brands took 43.4% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SUBARU grew fastest year on year (+641.4%) while MERCEDES-BENZ fell furthest (−26.7%). The best-selling model was the SUBARU OUTBACK with 1 656 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 413) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER (655).

Battery-electric cars took 28.8% of new registrations, compared with 28.8% in January 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 22.7%, other hybrids 15.6%, diesel 4.9% and petrol 19.4%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 1 300 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (915). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER with 655 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 (419).

January 2025 was the 13th-highest of the 17 months on this page, which average 23 365 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
