Sweden registered 19 608 new passenger cars in February 2025. That is down 0.1% on January 2025 and up 4.5% on February 2024. Year to date the market stands at 39 240 registrations, up 9.2% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 34.0% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 658 registrations and a 18.7% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 992) and KIA (1 482). Together the top three brands took 41.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLKSWAGEN grew fastest year on year (+76.7%) while TESLA fell furthest (−42.1%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 1 388 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (725) and the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER (538).

Battery-electric cars took 35.0% of new registrations, compared with 27.9% in February 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 26.0%, other hybrids 9.9%, diesel 6.0% and petrol 23.0%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 1 283 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 245). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 595 registrations, ahead of the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER (538).

February 2025 was the 14th-highest of the 18 months on this page, which average 23 156 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
