Sweden registered 24 204 new passenger cars in March 2025. That is up 23.4% on February 2025 and up 1.3% on March 2024. Year to date the market stands at 63 444 registrations, up 6.1% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 34.5% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 4 267 registrations and a 17.6% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 474) and TOYOTA (2 004). Together the top three brands took 40.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, SKODA grew fastest year on year (+92.3%) while TESLA fell furthest (โˆ’63.9%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 1 610 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (900) and the TESLA MODEL Y (767).

Battery-electric cars took 34.6% of new registrations, compared with 34.9% in March 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 26.1%, other hybrids 11.2%, diesel 6.6% and petrol 21.5%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 1 586 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 482). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 814 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (767).

March 2025 was the 11th-highest of the 19 months on this page, which average 23 212 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
