Sweden registered 24 292 new passenger cars in April 2025. That is up 0.4% on March 2025 and up 10.5% on April 2024. Year to date the market stands at 87 736 registrations, up 7.3% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 33.4% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 5 119 registrations and a 21.1% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 856) and TOYOTA (1 736). Together the top three brands took 44.1% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLKSWAGEN grew fastest year on year (+86.3%) while KIA fell furthest (โˆ’10.9%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 2 031 registrations, followed by the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER (976) and the VOLVO EX/XC40 (861).

Battery-electric cars took 35.2% of new registrations, compared with 30.9% in April 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 28.1%, other hybrids 9.8%, diesel 6.8% and petrol 20.0%. The leading electric brand was VOLKSWAGEN with 1 713 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 524). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLKSWAGEN ID.7/ID.7 TOURER with 976 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (640).

April 2025 was the 11th-highest of the 20 months on this page, which average 23 266 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
