Sweden registered 25 199 new passenger cars in September 2025. That is up 24.9% on August 2025 and down 2.0% on September 2024. Year to date the market stands at 204 027 registrations, up 5.5% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 40.0% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 4 731 registrations and a 18.8% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 034) and TOYOTA (1 943). Together the top three brands took 38.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, POLESTAR grew fastest year on year (+97.2%) while TESLA fell furthest (โˆ’64.0%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 2 087 registrations, followed by the TESLA MODEL Y (1 387) and the VOLVO EX/XC40 (988).

Battery-electric cars took 38.2% of new registrations, compared with 44.8% in September 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 30.2%, other hybrids 10.0%, diesel 4.1% and petrol 17.4%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 1 726 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLVO (1 527). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 387 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (833).

September 2025 was the 9th-highest of the 25 months on this page, which average 23 264 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
