Sweden registered 23 877 new passenger cars in December 2025. That is up 13.6% on November 2025 and down 9.3% on December 2024. Year to date the market stands at 272 998 registrations, up 1.3% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 40.8% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 4 597 registrations and a 19.3% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 801) and TOYOTA (2 477). Together the top three brands took 45.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TOYOTA grew fastest year on year (+59.2%) while TESLA fell furthest (โˆ’70.6%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO XC60 with 1 515 registrations, followed by the VOLVO EX/XC40 (1 391) and the POLESTAR 4 (828).

Battery-electric cars took 43.1% of new registrations, compared with 40.6% in December 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 25.5%, other hybrids 11.9%, diesel 4.7% and petrol 14.4%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 2 096 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 781). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 222 registrations, ahead of the POLESTAR 4 (828).

December 2025 was the 18th-highest of the 28 months on this page, which average 23 235 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low July 2024 with 16 337.
