Sweden registered 19 341 new passenger cars in February 2026. That is up 20.6% on January 2026 and down 1.4% on February 2025. Year to date the market stands at 35 382 registrations, down 9.8% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 37.6% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 704 registrations and a 19.2% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 415) and TOYOTA (1 647). Together the top three brands took 40.2% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, CUPRA grew fastest year on year (+36.6%) while VOLKSWAGEN fell furthest (โˆ’19.3%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 243 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 004) and the VOLVO EX30 (583).

Battery-electric cars took 39.6% of new registrations, compared with 35.0% in February 2025. Plug-in hybrids took 25.4%, other hybrids 11.0%, diesel 6.2% and petrol 17.3%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 2 144 battery-electric registrations, ahead of KIA (885). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 183 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX30 (583).

February 2026 was the 24th-highest of the 30 months on this page, which average 22 865 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low January 2026 with 16 041.
