Sweden registered 26 578 new passenger cars in March 2026. That is up 37.4% on February 2026 and up 9.8% on March 2025. Year to date the market stands at 61 960 registrations, down 2.3% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 40.2% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 3 853 registrations and a 14.5% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (3 099) and KIA (1 962). Together the top three brands took 33.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TESLA grew fastest year on year (+95.8%) while PEUGEOT fell furthest (โˆ’12.2%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 382 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 199) and the VOLVO EX/XC40 (1 132).

Battery-electric cars took 40.9% of new registrations, compared with 34.6% in March 2025. Plug-in hybrids took 24.3%, other hybrids 9.2%, diesel 6.2% and petrol 18.8%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 1 964 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (1 784). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 1 382 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX/XC40 (988).

March 2026 was the 4th-highest of the 31 months on this page, which average 22 985 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low January 2026 with 16 041.
