Sweden registered 24 147 new passenger cars in April 2026. That is down 9.1% on March 2026 and down 0.6% on April 2025. Year to date the market stands at 86 107 registrations, down 1.9% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 37.4% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

VOLVO led the brand ranking with 4 033 registrations and a 16.7% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 982) and TOYOTA (2 142). Together the top three brands took 37.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, FIAT grew fastest year on year (+54.1%) while AUDI fell furthest (−23.8%). The best-selling model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 293 registrations, followed by the VOLVO XC60 (1 096) and the TOYOTA YARIS (621).

Battery-electric cars took 40.7% of new registrations, compared with 35.2% in April 2025. Plug-in hybrids took 24.1%, other hybrids 8.8%, diesel 7.3% and petrol 18.6%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 2 258 battery-electric registrations, ahead of KIA (1 344). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX/XC40 with 1 128 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX30 (619).

April 2026 was the 17th-highest of the 32 months on this page, which average 23 021 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 29 436 and the low January 2026 with 16 041.
