Finland registered 7 973 passenger cars in January 2026: 5 462 new cars (68.5% of the total) and 2 511 used imports. That is down 4.4% on December 2025 and down 14.0% on January 2025. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 7 973, down 14.0% on January last year.

TOYOTA led the brand ranking with 1 054 registrations and a 13.2% share, ahead of VOLVO (858) and VOLKSWAGEN (741). Together the top three brands took 33.3% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, TESLA grew fastest year on year (+27.7%) while MERCEDES-BENZ fell furthest (โˆ’18.8%). The best-selling model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 221 registrations, followed by the TOYOTA YARIS CROSS (221) and the TOYOTA BZ4X (183).

Battery-electric cars took 48.4% of all registrations, compared with 34.1% in January 2025. Among new cars alone the electric share was 45.9%. Plug-in hybrids took 14.3%, diesel 6.7% and petrol 30.5%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 422 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (415). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 221 registrations, ahead of the TOYOTA BZ4X (183). New cars averaged 56.3 g/km of COโ‚‚ (WLTP). Used imports were on average 5.9 years old when they were registered.

January 2026 was the weakest of the 29 months on this page, which average 9 603 registrations a month; the strongest was May 2024 with 11 532.
