New passenger-car registrations in Switzerland

Switzerland registered 20 040 new passenger cars in April 2024. That is down 14.6% on March 2024 and up 10.4% on April 2023. Year to date the market stands at 77 264 registrations, up 0.4% on the same period of last year.

SKODA led the brand ranking with 2 155 registrations and a 10.8% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 006) and BMW (1 952). Together the top three brands took 30.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLVO grew fastest year on year (+79.3%) while SEAT / CUPRA fell furthest (−26.8%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 776 registrations, followed by the BMW X1 (484) and the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (477).

Battery-electric cars took 15.9% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 8.5%, other hybrids 31.8%, diesel 10.2% and petrol 33.5%. The leading electric brand was VOLVO with 532 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (445). The best-selling battery-electric model was the VOLVO EX30 with 402 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (378).

April 2024 was the 6th-highest of the 8 months on this page, which average 21 019 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 26 948 and the low January 2024 with 15 236.
