Switzerland registered 21 265 new passenger cars in May 2024. That is up 6.1% on April 2024 and down 1.4% on May 2023. Year to date the market stands at 98 529 registrations, unchanged on the same period of last year.

BMW led the brand ranking with 2 273 registrations and a 10.7% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (2 193) and SKODA (2 010). Together the top three brands took 30.5% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLVO grew fastest year on year (+53.5%) while SEAT / CUPRA fell furthest (โˆ’20.5%). The best-selling model was the SKODA OCTAVIA with 552 registrations, followed by the AUDI Q3 (499) and the BMW X1 (443).

Battery-electric cars took 16.8% of new registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 8.4%, other hybrids 31.0%, diesel 11.5% and petrol 32.4%. The leading electric brand was TESLA with 520 battery-electric registrations, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (410). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 328 registrations, ahead of the VOLVO EX30 (300).

May 2024 was the 5th-highest of the 9 months on this page, which average 21 046 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 26 948 and the low January 2024 with 15 236.
