Switzerland registered 14 788 new passenger cars in January 2025. That is down 41.7% on December 2024 and down 2.9% on January 2024. Year to date, meaning January alone, the total is 14 788, down 2.9% on January last year.

BMW led the brand ranking with 1 724 registrations and a 11.7% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 351) and SKODA (1 341). Together the top three brands took 29.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, HYUNDAI grew fastest year on year (+66.5%) while SKODA fell furthest (−10.8%). The best-selling model was the BMW X3 with 345 registrations, followed by the SKODA KODIAQ (287) and the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (273).

Battery-electric cars took 19.7% of new registrations, compared with 15.5% in January 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 9.2%, other hybrids 37.0%, diesel 8.3% and petrol 25.8%. The leading electric brand was BMW with 296 battery-electric registrations, ahead of AUDI (282). The best-selling battery-electric model was the TESLA MODEL Y with 152 registrations, ahead of the SKODA ENYAQ (141).

January 2025 was the weakest of the 17 months on this page, which average 20 306 registrations a month; the strongest was December 2023 with 26 948.
