New passenger-car registrations in Switzerland

Switzerland registered 18 664 new passenger cars in April 2025. That is down 14.0% on March 2025 and down 6.9% on April 2024. Year to date the market stands at 71 354 registrations, down 7.6% on the same period of last year.

BMW led the brand ranking with 2 080 registrations and a 11.1% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (1 980) and SKODA (1 743). Together the top three brands took 31.1% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, RENAULT grew fastest year on year (+41.2%) while TOYOTA fell furthest (−20.3%). The best-selling model was the MERCEDES-BENZ GLC with 364 registrations, followed by the AUDI Q3 (324) and the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (319).

Battery-electric cars took 18.6% of new registrations, compared with 15.9% in April 2024. Plug-in hybrids took 10.6%, other hybrids 36.7%, diesel 7.2% and petrol 26.9%. The leading electric brand was AUDI with 414 battery-electric registrations, ahead of BMW (327). The best-selling battery-electric model was the BMW IX1 with 179 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (178).

April 2025 was the 14th-highest of the 20 months on this page, which average 20 089 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 26 948 and the low January 2025 with 14 788.
