Switzerland registered 23 258 new passenger cars in March 2026. That is up 48.2% on February 2026 and up 7.2% on March 2025. Year to date the market stands at 52 982 registrations, up 0.6% on the same period of last year.

VOLKSWAGEN led the brand ranking with 2 612 registrations and a 11.2% share, ahead of BMW (2 200) and SKODA (2 068). Together the top three brands took 29.6% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, VOLKSWAGEN grew fastest year on year (+25.8%) while SEAT / CUPRA fell furthest (โˆ’9.9%). The best-selling model was the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF with 528 registrations, followed by the BMW X3 (516) and the VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN (479).

Battery-electric cars took 23.2% of new registrations, compared with 20.4% in March 2025. Plug-in hybrids took 12.4%, other hybrids 38.2%, diesel 5.2% and petrol 21.0%. The leading electric brand was SKODA with 654 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (641). The best-selling battery-electric model was the SKODA ELROQ with 345 registrations, ahead of the TESLA MODEL Y (314).

March 2026 was the 5th-highest of the 31 months on this page, which average 19 908 registrations a month; the peak was December 2023 with 26 948 and the low January 2026 with 14 027.
