Latvia registered 5 107 passenger cars in October 2023: 1 431 new cars (28.0% of the total) and 3 676 used imports. That is up 0.6% on September 2023 and up 1.1% on October 2022. Year to date the market stands at 52 705 registrations, up 1.6% on the same period of last year. Private buyers accounted for 64.2% of registrations, the rest going to companies, leasing and fleets.

BMW led the brand ranking with 785 registrations and a 15.4% share, ahead of VOLKSWAGEN (591) and VOLVO (562). Together the top three brands took 37.9% of the market. Among the ten largest brands, NISSAN grew fastest year on year (+31.7%) while AUDI fell furthest (โˆ’22.8%). The best-selling model was the BMW 3 SERIES with 228 registrations, followed by the BMW 5 SERIES (159) and the VOLVO XC60 (134). The 3 SERIES arrived mainly as a used import: 226 used against 2 new.

Battery-electric cars took 5.1% of all registrations. Plug-in hybrids took 1.1%, diesel 61.3% and petrol 31.1%. The leading electric brand was NISSAN with 38 battery-electric registrations, ahead of TESLA (34). The best-selling battery-electric model was the NISSAN LEAF with 35 registrations, ahead of the AUDI E-TRON (21). Used imports were on average 11.6 years old when they were registered.

October 2023 was the 2nd-highest of the 3 months on this page, which average 5 254 registrations a month; the peak was August 2023 with 5 580 and the low September 2023 with 5 076.
